New Strategy In The Chess Openings (Rare )
New Strategy in the Chess Openings by Hugh E. Myers, September 1968. This is the first book by Myers, the National Master who became the foremost authority on the Nimzovich Defense (1.e4 Nc6) and gave his name to Myers' Defense, 1.c4 g5. The title page describes it as "chiefly a recommendation for Nimzovich's Defense," 1.P-K4 N-QB3 2.P-Q4 P-Q4, but it also gives "various seldom played defenses" against 1.P-Q4, including Tchigorin's Defense, the Budapest Gambit, and the East Indian Defense. It suggests new ideas for White, including the concept of playing "reversed" openings "with a move in hand." Moves are in descriptive notation. This is an early, privately produced edition. The title page credits the printing to Multi-Stat Copy Co. of Cleveland, Ohio, with cover design by Wolford Studio of Dayton, Ohio. It is much scarcer than the later, widely sold Myers books. For the opening collector, the Nimzovich Defense player, or the reader of Myers' work, it's a good find.Condition: Good to Very Good for its age, in the original olive-green textured covers. There's a small dark-red stain on the back cover and a few tiny spots. The pages are clean. The binding is tight.
